Opening gates to the landscapes of our minds

It began somewhere in my fairy tale... Today Dog Tale Ranch is a non-typical tidy Saskatchewan ranch which keeps us bound to nature and always mindful of her thoughts. The ranch is the combined effort of a husband and wife team striving to stay out of the rat race and avoid the push of the masses. We are stewards of the land and endeavor to discover ways to refashion our ranch life while maintaining a deeply rooted respect for animals and mother earth. Moving forward with our working dogs and livestock keeps us grounded and consistently reminds us to leave our easily damaged egos at the gate.

Currently we keep ourselves busy raising a flock of sheep in a natural manner on grass. On the side we keep a small bevy of free-range ducks and a couple of yard geese. The sheep are our main focus and we are learning the art of grazing for the health of land and grass.

Ironically and somewhat humorously, the reason we considered sheep and grass is attributed to two Border Collie dogs. Upon moving to the ranch it was my quest for a new challenge that initially resulted in the dogs and I running circles around some wiser woolies. Five sheep for the dogs multiplied into many sheep for the grass. The combination of sheep and dogs led to the creation of the Dog Tale Ranch Herding Facility and a fond affection for sheep in general.
